Georgia closes border with Azerbaijan for two weeks after first case of coronavirus infection in Georgia

Georgian Minister of Health Ekaterina Tikaradze said that after the case of a new type of coronavirus infection in the country, the border with Azerbaijan was closed for two weeks, according to Novosti-Georgia.

According to Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Public Health and Disease Control, the condition of the infected man is normal, he has no clinical manifestations and no fever. He also stressed that at present Georgia is fully prepared to confront the epidemic and called on the population to remain calm.

As we have already informed, the first case of a new type of coronavirus infection has been registered in Georgia. The infected man is about 50 years old. He had been traveling to Iran on a personal business trip with his friend for the past week and had returned to Georgia via Azerbaijan.

It is reported that Georgian authorities have banned Iranian citizens from entering the country for two weeks because of the coronavirus. According to the health minister, Georgian citizens were also banned from visiting Iran.

"We do not have a direct land border with Iran, but the entry of Iranian citizens into the country, as well as the departure of Georgian citizens to Iran will be banned for two weeks," Tikaradze said.
